One of the couples who attend our congregation is Kenny and Melissa Stillwell. In the picture above: Melissa, Connor, and Kenny in the front row; Melyssa, Ariel, Carrie & Jake in the back row. The Current recently interviewed the Stillwell’s.
What are your occupations?
Kenny, Melissa and Kenny's Dad run a small family business. We are the Car Brite Distributor for Nebraska—our office and warehouse is located off of 88th & L Street in Omaha.
What do you enjoy doing?
We enjoy our down-time- especially since there isn't much time to be had in our family—somebody is always running somewhere! We like to go fishing and bike riding as a family.
Tell us about your children and what they like to do.
We have five children. Carrie is 18 and just finished her Freshman year of college in Laramie, Wyoming, where she is studying to be an elementary school teacher. Ariel just finished her freshman year at PLSHS, and is an aspiring Pediatric Surgeon. Jake just finished his seventh grade year where he highly enjoys competing in Show Choir and has taken an exciting interest in Forensic Science. Melyssa just finished her 6th grade year and is looking foreword to Jr. High and hopes to make the volleyball team. And, last but not least, there is Connor. He starts kindergarten in the fall and is deliriously excited about that! He is currently keeping himself and us busy with T-Ball.
(The Garvey children are Melissa's brother's and sisters)
What drew you to Papio Creek?
We were drawn into a church in Plattsmouth through our children. However, we did not agree with a few of the teachings and did not feel as welcomed there as we thought we should. We agreed to find a church when we moved to Papillion where we could go as a family. We thought we would Church shop and asked Mary Clark & Chris Rector about their church. They brought us one Sunday and we never looked elsewhere!
What do you like about Papio Creek?
Here we feel welcome and as though we truly are a part of a much bigger family!
How are you involved with Papio Creek?
Melissa teaches the JAM kids. Ariel & Jake teach and help out in the Toddler room. Melyssa loves to help in the baby room.
What is your vision for Papio Creek?
Our vision for Papio Creek Church is that we continue to see it grow and be an accepting, welcoming “Rock” in the community. Our hope, as the majority of our children have reached the Jr. & Sr. High age group, is to see the Youth Ministry grow and be a strong presence in the Papillion Teenage Community.
